All in all, IVF + PGD testing in BKK is cheaper than doing it in HK, plus you get the service in BKK. Of course, if you’re willing to spend a significant amount of time in BKK (6-8 weeks), you could do the whole shebang there including the stimulation stage. This would work out far cheaper than what we actually paid because we opted to do the Stims stage in HK which actually racked up quite a big bill with all the blood tests, ultrasounds, consultations and medicine.
In summary:
IVF#1
HK Sanatorium = HK$133,164 (including two FET attempts). We did not do PGD testing but were advised that it would have costed an additional HK$50,000 (approx) for up to 8 embryos. I’m not sure how much an additional embryo costs. That would amount to approx. HK$183,164 (not yet including various consultations and blood tests in between, as well as testing for additional embryos. I would safely say that the number would easily hit/exceed HK$200K.
IVF#2
Dr Philip Ho, HK (Stimulation Stage + Trigger) = HK$56,600
Superior Art, Bangkok (Egg Retrieval + PGD for 9 embryos + FET) = HK$76,279
BKK Travel Expenses = HK$21,800
Total: HK$154,679
Bare in mind that if I did the stimulation stage (i.e. the whole shebang and monitoring) in BKK instead of HK, the total cost for IVF#2 + PGD would have been:
Stimulation and Trigger = HK$38,360
PGD for 9 Embryos + Egg Retrieval + FET = HK$76,279
Travel Expenses = HK$21,800
Total: HK$136,439
Add the HK$60,000 that we had already spent on Doctors 1 & 2 and we’ve spent upwards of HK$350,000. People say that having a baby is expensive… Well we haven’t even had ours yet. Sigh!
